Client Testimonials
Dave
has a great vision of how to take something old, keep its charm
and make it live like new. Our house in Orleans was at least
125 years old and in need of major repairs. Dave and his crew
stripped the exterior, rebuilt the roof and updated the mechanicals.
From the inside, the charm of the house was absolutely preserved
with beautifully refinished wide pine floors and revitalized trim.
The new windows were painstakingly installed in a way to preserve
the 125 year old interior trim. And the feel of the house
remains old time Cape Cod with modern features.
We decided to replace the ell portion of the house with new construction.
Again, the attention to design detail and the ability to fit the
new construction in seamlessly with the original part of the house
has produced a wonderful "new" older home. Dave's
ability to keep a close eye on details and keep us well informed
during construction, even though we live in Connecticut, are exemplary.
Dave and his crew have done a fabulous job.

We found it a difficult decision to tear down our cottage (which
had been the family summer home for 35 years) and rebuild new. During
the entire project Dave was upbeat and had a "can do"
attitude. He returned our calls, kept in almost constant contact
with us and was always able to solve problems based on our preferences,
even when doing this caused an additional degree of effort on his
part. Working with regulatory agencies on building projects can
be very difficult at times.
Dave seemed to be in constant contact with the town building department
and as a result he was able to get all of the many, many required
approvals and finally the Certificate of Occupancy. Where we chose
to hire our own subcontractors such as for landscaping, stone walls
and driveway Dave coordinated and cooperated with them fully which
made the overall project go smoothly. We were very pleased with
the quality of the materials Dave recommended. He also set up meetings
for us to meet and talk with all of the subcontractors who were
very receptive to our wishes.
While on the subject of the workcrews we were very pleased with
the men and women Dave employed. They were clean cut, polite, experienced,
hard working and a pleasure to work with. We enjoyed them all. Concerning
the all important budget, Dave was able to stay very close to the
original budget we had set up for the various stages of the project.
Where we went over it was mostly as a result of our decision to
upgrade some material. As a result, we love our new home and would
recommend Dave to anyone getting started with a remodel or a complete
tear down and rebuild.

"David Doddridge has successfully completed two complex mid-sized
houses for me in recent years. Both were on schedule and on
budget. David is focused and organizes his suppliers and subcontractors
effectively in a work and materials environment that is in constant
evolution (not of his doing). He is even tempered, persistent,
imaginative and capable of diplomatic arm twisting when needed.
He does his best to keep the architect and the client informed of
progress, schedule and costs. I'd be pleased to work with
David again."

This was my first time having a house built and I live off Cape . So, not only was I concerned about the construction project overall, but I would not be there regularly to inspect the work and to monitor the progress against a proposed schedule.
I spoke to a number of builders and general contractors, selected three to bid on rough plans and spoke to each about budget, time and quality. In this way I was able to get a feel for their approach, abilities and work methods. Dave Doddridge took the time to understand what I wanted, then bid on the project. I was very interested in his approach, which is for me to pay the subs directly and thereby monitor the project from afar. The payments would only happen after Dave gives his OK and personally agrees to the work and its quality. (This sounds like a lot of work for the owner, but turns out to be more interesting than work.) After several discussions and tours of past projects we selected him and the project began.
He provided a “project bible” including a work schedule, quotes from all the subcontractors, what each was to do and by when, how much it would cost and what decisions I yet had to make about materials, colors, styles, appliances, etc. I was able to personally view the progress about once a month, but received e-mails about progress, issues, and decisions to be made several times a week. He even e-mailed pictures at critical junctures! Amazing!
The house was completed on time, within budget and is of wonderful quality/craftsmanship, better than I could imagine in this day and age. The house is much better than we ever envisioned and we have recommended him to many others thinking about building on the Cape .

We have successfully built 2 traditional homes with David, and my
father-in-law built another very contemporary home with him last
year! David is terrific! and I know eventually we'll work with him
again (just have to locate a property). David is extremely conscientious,
and made several recommendations during the processes that greatly
enhanced our homes. One house needed to be built within a challenging
timeline, which he accomplished and our home in Truro was partially
a restoration with a new wing and he also built a beautiful barn.
He is a pleasure to work with always, keeps you posted on progress
etc., very honest, reliable, performs quality work and is genuinely
committed to the homes that he builds. We highly recommend him!
I hope this helpful!
